Biography.
Julia Schauerman is an electroacoustic composer, improviser and community artist. Collaboration is central to Julia’s practice; she has been involved in over 30 collaborations within the last 2 years and works closely with digital art group Genetic Moo.

Julia completed a Composition MA with distinction at The University of Sheffield and has now undertaking a practice-led research PhD at the University of the Arts London and is a member of Creative Research into Sound Arts Practice (CRiSAP). Julia has recently been awarded a TECHNE Studentship.

Julia’s interests include composing ecologically themed works and exploring the use of electroacoustic techniques within community arts practice. She is currently an artist-in-residence at the Leverhulme Centre for Anthropocene Biodiversity at the University of York, where she is collaborating with LCAB researcher Theo Tomking on a work about sustainable food production. Julia has recently completed a knowledge exchange research project with the Music Mind Machine research centre at The University of Sheffield and Sheffcare Ltd, a care provider for people living with dementia.

Twenty-five 2-hour programmes, broadcast on Genetic Moo’s YouTube channel, documenting their digital ecosystem experiments and virtual collaborations. As Artist-in-residence, I responded to given themes on a weekly basis, producing fixed compositions and/or prepared audio material for live improvised mixing which were then transmitted via OBS and ListenTo software.
